Since the inauguration of Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei in 2001 - under the cooperation of Taipei City Government and the enterprise-run Contemporary Art Foundation - its foundation has based on the principles of art innovation, heritage revitalization and contemporary culture connection. Over the past seven years, a great amount of outstanding local and overseas artists had successfully presented fantastic exhibitions in our institution. All previous directors and staffs devoted themselves to introduce contemporary art to Taipei citizens and to implement multicultural and interdisciplinary factors into the historical building. Now, MOCA Taipei is becoming a “must” stage for artists as well as one of the most influential sites for promoting contemporary art. Moreover, the architecture itself has written a page on the history of Taipei cultural construction.
In the year 2008, the operation of MOCA Taipei has been bestowed to the semi-governmental organization, Taipei Culture Foundation, with the great expectation that it will continue the former principles and achievements and keep integrating the resources from both the government and the enterprises. A new direction that MOCA Taipei aims to take is building connection among art trends, social culture and daily life. While MOCA creates a stage for professional artists, and provide an art playground for citizens, it will also design more programs for the community to participate in artistic activities.
In the age of web 2.0 & Beyond, for a professional art museum that focuses on contemporary art, it has not only to keep up with the global art trend, but also to bridge the industry itself with the general public. A system for the integration of artistic creation, information transmission, education, learning, entertainment, community recognition, and cultural construction must then be worked out. This integrated system should be an echo of the spirit of contemporary art itself-- keep moving on actively and lively day by day. With a belief that art is immense and without limits, and with a mission to improve domestic art environment, MOCA Taipei will further strengthen its own performance and accept creative thinking, artistic imagination, as well as professional opinions.
