Director’s Words

  • An Important Contemporary Art Brand in Asia

Our goal is to transform MOCA Taipei into an important contemporary art brand in Asia as well as one of the significant cultural brands of Taipei City. As MOCA Taipei will soon welcome its 20th anniversary, the museum will be re-positioned and enter the domestic and international contemporary art scene with a new brand image, conducting brand marketing while actively engaging in collaboration with international institutions.

  • Establishing and Facilitating Knowledge Economy

As an art museum that will soon enter its 20th anniversary, MOCA Taipei’s exhibitions throughout past years will be converted into constructive research content to increase the museum’s research energy and directions. By doing so, the value-added application of the exhibition contents produced by MOCA Taipei can become beneficial to the audience. From exhibition catalogue, audiovisual production, digital publication of contents on demand, IP products, to other derivative collaborations, they are all highly anticipated research and collaboration aspects for contemporary connections.

  • Exhibition Collaboration with International Institutions

International collaboration oftentimes requires early planning; however, in terms of long-term collaboration, planning of exhibitions or seminars regarding the studies of art trends is a viable option, whereas inter-museum collaboration provides opportunities for co-planning exhibitions, mutual selection of artworks, artists’ creative projects and touring exhibitions. Moreover, MOCA Taipei will seek suitable opportunities to incorporate the mechanism of annual “international observers” to increase the museum’s international media coverage with the reports of “international observers.”

  • Media Strategy

Establishing the preventative and crisis response principles of MOCA Taipei’s public relation department will help minimize unnecessary frictions and misunderstanding between the museum and the external environment. The museum’s online and offline advertisement and marketing strategies will be more active and flexible to reach the public via advertisements.

  • Community Collaboration

MOCA Taipei sits at an intersection between a historic part of the city and a shopping district with various department stores. It is our goal to create a win-win situation and establish friendly, collaborative relationships with our neighbors in an unimposing and effective way. With trans-positional thinking, the museum will design activities and collaboration modes with our neighbors at the center.

  • Fundraising and Resource Attraction

In addition to our current fundraising program and sources of income, horizontal alliances and merchandizing self-produced contents are also viable options for MOCA Taipei. In the meantime, we also look forward to incorporating large-scale crowdfunding projects.

  • Exhibition Planning Aligned with Our Vision and Goal

The contents of exhibitions are the core and soul of MOCA Taipei as well as the foremost indicator for examining an art museum. Exhibitions must be planned carefully to ensure the alignment with the museum’s vision and goal. Therefore, the museum’s research must support the annual exhibition planning. We value quality more than quantity, with an equal emphasis on local and international contents. The overall research, curating, exhibition and marketing will be planned in sync.

  • Envisioning the Future

MOCA Taipei enters its 19th anniversary in 2020 and will soon welcome its 20th anniversary (2001-2021). In addition to continuing our existing projects and efforts, it is our sincere hope to transform MOCA Taipei into a crucial contemporary cultural site in Asia as well as a hub for contemporary art energy from around the world. We invite all to join us and combine our power to integrate diverse culture and interdisciplinary creativity to march towards the next splendid two decades.
