About the Exhibition:

The word “cross” holds multiple and contrasting meanings; For example, it can be used to mean the crucifix or an intersection, crossroad, with the former representing an absolute form of faith, which is quite centripetal; However, the latter indicates paths of four different directions, which holds centrifugal dynamics. “Cross” can also be used to represent conceptual and action-based interactions and dialogues, but at the same time, it can also indicate parallel and aligned arrangements like a symphonic musical composition. The word is also frequently used today to convey thoughts that transcends beyond the Self and the original position, with actions initiated that cross over conventions and boarders, extending to include developmental projects and actions through assertive cross-domain explorations and cross-disciplinary integrations. Today’s society is very diverse and complex, and many different communities are rising to prominence in the contemporary era, with many driven by their determination to assertively care for our society and to come together to think of solutions for problems we are facing. Members in these communities come from different familial, educational, and social backgrounds, and they all seem to be thinking about the same thing: “What do we, those living in this generation-crossing era, have, and how should we face what’s in front of us and also think about the future?”

The overarching theme of this exhibition is CROSS-Design+ X Art+, and the objective is to present artists from different contemporary disciplines and for them to transcend beyond themselves and to be involved in different communities, with their endeavors resulting in different social practices. When artists and designers’ ideas are transformed into social practices engaging in people, between people and society, or evoking thoughts in individuals or collective groups, they then have the potential to become forces that can alter history and transform reality! The contributing artists for this exhibition include: Yu-Chih HSIAO, Apex Lin,Pang-Soong, Beautiful Taiwan Care Association + Chang Chia-Ju, Jeffrey Wang x BLANQ, justfont, DHH studio, Tzu-Han HSIAO, active creative design, Ren-Jye WANG x Chiu-I HSU, Pei-Chen YANG, Chien Hsueh-Yi + syncu's + Chien Architects & Associates+VERY MAINSTREAM STUDIO, National Taiwan Normal University’s Department of Design, and MOCA, Taipei Fun Street, Street Fun curatorial team.

About the Exhibition:

Shi Jin-Song ‘s A Personal Design Show includes three messages: first, this is a design show focusing on one person, second, this is a design museum regarding personal daily life, and third, it presents an autobiography showing a resistance of “designing” and “being designed”. In general, the so-called "design," in Shi Jin-Song's opinion, symbolizes the values of different power systems and the legitimatization from different parties of interest in various historic periods. These values have become knowledge and guidance of the everyday life that informed people's consciousness and common sense, including moral ethics, political system, religions, etc. And his personal design show is to against this power system or a set of rules throughout the history.

She also frequently travels back to Taiwan and pays close attention to its social developments. On the surface, she is constantly moving between her two “homes” in the U.S. and Taiwan, but she sees life as a never-ending journey. In addition to changing one’s dwelling place, more importantly are the experiences and rewards acquired from connections with the world on the outside and one’s personal inner growth, and also the complex and unpredictable interactions between the two. Project: Finding Home-Ronald Ventura Sole Exhibition is the first solo exhibition at MOCA, Taipei for a Filipino artist. Born in 1973 in Manila, Ronald Ventura is a celebrated contemporary artist in the Philippines. His earlier paintings incorporated realism techniques with his peculiar style, and he later diverged into diverse developments bringing together Filipino folk legends with traditional craftwork, with deliberate references to Western art classics and American, Japanese animation aestheticism. The result is a surrealism style mixed with playful pop and popular cultural semiotics. In addition to rich narratives, Ventura’s art also reveals Filipino’s unique ethnicity.

Perseverance – No Limitation : Solo Exhibition of Leland Lee

MOCA Taipei

初版 First published in:2016年8月 August, 2016

ISBN:978-986-92626-9-9

About the Exhibition:

The artistic context of Perseverance – No Limitation originates from the artist’s present, personal, everyday life. However, Lee guides his audience to calmly and positively revisit all kinds of social and cultural issues introduced by the contemporary society. The painted cityscape, people, and animals are in bold and unpretentious colors such as orange, red, emerald green, bright yellow, royal blue, etc., interspersed with gold paint and silver powder. The use of prismatic colors, integrated with free-flowing, confident forms in black lines, delineates the agreeable, harmonious world that stands out from the tumultuous reality in people’s eyes.
