MOCA Taipei’s volunteer team is organized and managed by the museum’s exhibition team’s public service sector, and is known for its exceptional service quality and friendly attitude.  The large volunteer team is now an integral support system for the museum’s operation.  At the end of 2012, the team is composed of 167 people, with 138 women and 29 men.  The team has accumulated a total of 20,412 service hours and provided its assistances to 178,058 people.

MOCA Taipei volunteers work according to a weekly set duty schedule, with each shift being four hours and divided into two segments of morning and afternoon.  The main tasks of the volunteers include artwork maintenance, exhibition guidance, and to provide information to visitors of the museum.  Furthermore, volunteers also provide the museum’s guided tour service to the public, with the volunteers participating in advance the museum’s training courses prior to the exhibition opening.  Upon passing the inspection given by the museum staff, the volunteers are then qualified to provide guided tours.  Group tours and tours offered at set times are both offered free of charge, but the group tours must be reserved two week in advance.

In regards to volunteer training, all new volunteers must participate fully in the special training courses organized by the museum.  Additionally, specific exhibition training courses are offered for each exhibition, with the objective to strengthen each volunteer’s knowledge of the artworks.  Fire and emergency training courses are held once every six months to increase the volunteers’ response ability should they encounter emergencies while on duty.  Visits to other art institutions in Taiwan are also organized to broaden the volunteers’ artistic and cultural horizon.
