Established nearly thirty-five years ago, the “Arts et Technologies de l'Image” (ATI) department at Paris 8 University was the first graduate institute to offer programs that combined computer technology and artistic creation in France. Its ideal and teaching objective have always been to nurture students' artistic creativity and abilities in technological research and development.
Imaging Paris—Animation Exhibition by ATI, Paris 8 University is curated by Professor Chu-Yin Chen, who is directing the “Image Numérique & Realité Virtuelle Augmentée” (INREV) Laboratory and the Master “Arts et technologies de l’image”, Paris 8 University. Professor Chen specifically selects 41 animation and video works created by students over a decade (2005 to 2015) to be exhibited on the LED Wall on the MOCA Plaza. These videos are mostly created by master students of ATI in an intensive workshop that lasted three weeks. They are divided into three themes, which are The ATI's Parade, Paris City Life Movies, and Post Natural.
1)The ATI's Parade: this group of works include cartoons and comics, cinematic special effects and artistic experiments, which demonstrate diversity in 3D animation as well as the spirit for research, development and experimentation.
2) Paris City Life Movies: this group of videos integrates both realistic and imaginary elements, revealing diverse aspects of the Parisian life in a lighthearted and intriguing manner through animation.
3) Post Natural: inspired by the mechanism of life or the natural environment, this group of videos unfurls a lush and lively world as they guide viewers into a post-natural universe informed by both nature and artificiality.
