Exhibition Statement
True fear originates from self-questioning and self-doubt.
Facing one’s fear indicates the moment to wake up and soar high.
From fear to POWER,
Let’s march forward and be brave!
Though each tells a unique story, the 25 nominated works of Q POWER share some common themes. These could be the exploration of desire, emotional connections, the fear of societal judgment, the gender framework for LGBTQ+ or straight people, and identity adaptation in LGBTQ+ families; or reflecting on the defined norms, subverting stereotype labels, proudly being oneself, cross-national same-sex marriage, and the intersectional issues faced by Indigenous LGBTQ+ individuals.
These vibrant stories, expressed through various mediums, reflect the contemporary lives of Taiwan's LGBTQ+ community. Five years after the legalization of same-sex marriage in Taiwan, societal attitudes toward LGBTQ+ issues are gradually improving. While the fear of mainstream rejection persists, the confidence of unique individuals is steadily growing, from fear to POWER.
Exhibition Design Concept
What are your worst fears and the bravest thing you have ever done?
Growing up, we all feared and struggled, tried and failed, fell and stood back up, regardless of gender and sexual orientation.
We seem to see ourselves when seeing other people’s stories.
We know that we are not alone in our struggle when learning about the fears of others.
We feel empowered when watching how others have fought their way.
Learning about other people’s life stories helps eliminate discrimination.
When we face our fears head-on, the possibility becomes unlimited.
Q POWER
In 2019, Taiwan legalized same-sex marriage, but misunderstandings of and prejudices against the LGBTQ+ community continue to exist in everyday life and the social structure.
The Taiwan Equality Campaign (TEC) has been conducting social research. According to polls, nearly 60% of people do not have friends or family members from the LGBTQ+ community, and the media remains their primary source of information about the LGBTQ+ community. Meanwhile, there has been a surge in the number of LGBTQ+ TV programs and films, which often tend to sustain specific story types or images, further deepening stereotypical impressions.
For this reason, based on the example of the GLADD Media Awards (USA), the TEC creates a platform for encouraging creators, distributors, and corporations to convey diverse, accurate, and influential LGBTQ+ stories to society to change gradually the general public’s singular, partial, and stereotypical impressions of the LGBTQ+ community.

The antecedent of the Taiwan Equality Campaign (TEC) is the Marriage Equality Coalition, which comprises five LGBTQ+ and gender organizations. When same-sex marriage was legalized in 2019, the coalition underwent organizational reform and was officially registered as the Taiwan Equality Campaign in 2020.
In addition to the energy and experience accumulated over many years in launching political initiatives, the TEC has continued its engagement in managing online communities to cope with the digital era, developing YouTube and Podcast programs while organizing the 1st Q POWER in 2022.

1. MOCA Taipei will remove the webpage content claimed to cause the copyright
infringement as soon as possible after receiving your notice, and will inform the
user about the infringement via email. If the said user objects to said
infringement, MOCA Taipei can provide your name, email or phone number to said user
so that direct communication can be achieved to resolve the dispute.
2. According to MOCA Taipei’s privacy policy and related regulations, MOCA Taipei is
only allowed to provide a user’s personally identifiable information to a third
party by the request of the law or a governmental agency unless said user agrees or
for the purpose of providing a service. Therefore, when you file a report, MOCA
Taipei will only remove the contents causing the copyright infringement, and will
not provide you any personally identifiable information of said user. If you wish to
obtain the user’s information, a legal proceeding must be filed at the District
Prosecutor’s Office or the Criminal Investigation Bureau, who will issue an official
letter to MOCA Taipei requesting the user’s information. In the case, MOCA Taipei
will comply accordingly.

MOCA Taipei values user’s privacy very much and has implemented the following privacy and data protection policy, which is listed below for your reference.
The privacy and data protection policy includes MOCA Taipei’s management of personal
identifiable information collected when providing users the website service as well as MOCA
Taipei’s management of any personal identifiable information shared between the museum and
our business partners.
The privacy and data protection policy is not applicable to any enterprise other than MOCA
Taipei, nor does it apply to those that are not staff or managements employed by MOCA
Taipei.
When you register a MOCA Taipei account, use MOCA Taipei’s products or services, browse MOCA
Taipei’s website, take part in related promotional activities or gifting programs, MOCA
Taipei will collect your personal identifiable information. MOCA Taipei is also allowed to
obtain said information from our business partners.
When you register a MOCA Taipei account, you will be asked to provide your name, email, date
of birth, sex, work title, field of profession and personal interests. Once your
registration is successful and the account is successfully logged into for the use of our
service, we will be able to recognize you.
MOCA Taipei also automatically receive and record the server data on your browser, including
IP address, the information in MOCA Taipei’s cookie and the record of visited webpages.
MOCA Taipei uses the information for the following purposes: to improve advertisement and
webpage contents provided for you, to complete your request for a certain product and to
notify you about a special event or new project.
MOCA Taipei will not sell or loan your personal identifiable information to anyone.
In the following circumstances, MOCA Taipei will provide your personal identifiable
information to a governmental agency, an individual or a company.
To obtain your consent before sharing the information with other individuals or companies.
To provide a requested product or service, which requires sharing your information with
