One of the most important spirits of contemporary art is to break the rules and find new creative and aesthetic expressions. With this concept in mind, MOCA Taipei continues with the series of Zhongshan Impression from 2011 to extend beyond the walls of the museum with ideas of integrating art into public spaces. Street Fun‧Fun Street is an exhibition that links together creative elements inspired by the community and is also an effort towards the realization of bringing art education to the community.
The parameter of Street Fun‧Fun Street includes the areas in the historical district between the areas of Zhongshan and Shuanglian, with its contents including four sub-projects of: 1. Neighborhood Cultural and Creative Project: 13 artists and creative talents are invited to spend time in the area to create exhibitions and to also link with existing art spaces; 2. Neighborhood Visual Project: 5 photographers are invited to guide people into the community through their camera lenses. Opportunities are created for people to see the old community with new perspectives; 3. Neighborhood Sound Project: 8 sound artists and music groups are invited to utilize sounds extracted from the local businesses and spaces to create sound artworks; and lastly, 4. Contemporary Autumn Fun: In accordance with the local Autumn Moon Festival celebration, an event that combines music, art, creative elements and a bazaar will be presented for local residents to come together and have fun. While enjoying the festivities, a chance is also offered for the public to learn about the interesting connections between independent music and contemporary art.
The most special part about this project is that these four sub-projects will take place at everyday locations in the neighborhood, such as on the parapet wall of an old house, a fashion store, and at the bustling metro station. The aim is to break people’s preconceived notions about art. Take part in this exhibition and wonder in the streets and alleyways paved with art, and be like one of Baudelaire’s flâneurs. Explore the city and be enchanted by its multifaceted charms, and be inspired to live more creativity.
As the gentle autumn breezes swift by, from September 21st to October 21st, MOCA Taipei invites you to bring your friends to the neighborhood of Zhongshan and Shuanglian and MOCA Studio at the MRT Underground Street. Embark on a journey to explore the imprints of art and culture in these historical streets and lanes, and marvel at the moon for a celebration infused with art and music!
