Chrono Eclipse: The Light Between is an immersive solo exhibition by Korean artist Ligyung, featuring a single site-specific installation. The exhibition delves into the duality of time, exploring moments where creation and extinction, memory and oblivion intersect. Driven by the fundamental question, "How deep runs the shadow in every light?", the artist expands into an investigation of temporality in this exhibition.
The exhibition title, "Chrono Eclipse," aptly encapsulates this exploration. It evokes the celestial phenomenon of an eclipse, where the sun is momentarily obscured, highlighting the fleeting nature of light and the cyclical patterns of time. As the exhibition reveals, time is not a linear progression, but rather a complex interplay of cycles, rhythms, and unexpected shifts, much like the ebb and flow of an eclipse itself. The artist thereby invites viewers to experience a visual symphony of light and material transformation—a convergence of natural elements and ephemeral states where the linearity and continuity of time dissolve.
Using Xiaonan wood incense powder and architectural interventions, the artist opens a sensory dialogue between permanence and impermanence. In the two gallery spaces, there are conceptual “towers” with inscriptions lying on the floor, symbolizing completeness and fragmentation respectively. As the exhibition progresses, the inscriptions written in Xiaonan incense powder on the towers undergo gradual changes and transformations due to audience interaction, visually embodying the passage of time and its cyclical traces. The artist's approach to art as "a struggle to transform matter into spirit" is realized through the meticulous installation utilizing natural light and architectural space. Unfolding in the historically layered space of MoCA TAIPEI, this exhibition offers a meditation on the nature of time, memory, and impermanence, through philosophical contemplation and sensory experience.
By seamlessly blending artistic expression with philosophical inquiry, Chrono Eclipse: The Light Between brings a profound and thought-provoking experience which invites audiences to contemplate the passage and the perception of time. This exploration prompts viewers to question their own relationship with time, to consider the impermanence of all things, and ultimately, to grapple with the profound questions of the nature of reality itself.

Ligyung (b. 1969, South Korea) lives and works in Brussels and Seoul. She holds an MPhil and MA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, London. Renowned for her explorations of light, space, and perception, she has exhibited at major institutions including ZKM (Germany), Victoria Miro Project Space_14 Wharf Rd (London), and MMCA Seoul. Significant projects include Nam June Paik X Ligyung at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, a solo exhibition at Ginza Maison Hermes Le Forum in Tokyo, and a projection mapping at the facade of the Triumphal Arch in Brussels commemorating 60 years of Korea-EU diplomatic relations. Her work has appeared in the Gwangju and Busan Biennales and numerous exhibitions across Europe and Asia.
Ligyung is an artist who explores the duality of life through light and space as her primary media. Questioning "how imperfect it is to believe what we see," she manifests the relationship between light and darkness, presence and absence through her works. Rather than spectacular sensory play, she pursues artistic practice that explores the boundaries between matter and spirit, expressing philosophical contemplation about humanity and society through light. Her works, while absent of concrete objects, draw insights into society and human nature, examining the relationship between phenomenon and reality while revealing the fundamental issues inherent in our lives. For the artist, light functions not merely as a visual element, but as a medium that reveals the hidden aspects of life and explores the essence of being.

1. MOCA Taipei will remove the webpage content claimed to cause the copyright
infringement as soon as possible after receiving your notice, and will inform the

infringement, MOCA Taipei can provide your name, email or phone number to said user
so that direct communication can be achieved to resolve the dispute.
2. According to MOCA Taipei’s privacy policy and related regulations, MOCA Taipei is
only allowed to provide a user’s personally identifiable information to a third
party by the request of the law or a governmental agency unless said user agrees or
for the purpose of providing a service. Therefore, when you file a report, MOCA
Taipei will only remove the contents causing the copyright infringement, and will
